Software localization field

Hi all!

I'm wondering if there are people here who work in software localization who could provide some info on what the field is like. The type of positions, skills required, background needed, typical day-to-day of your position, etc. I currently work for a software company (customer-facing, non-technical role) and trying to figure out what I should do with my life. I love language learning and was looking into pursuing a degree in Arabic or French translation, but am worried about finding a job (I already have loans from undergrad.) After getting a glimpse of the software development world from my current job this is also something that interests me but I have no background in computer science whatsoever. I'm just curious in learning more about this field to see if it's something I could somehow pursue and if there are actually enough job opportunities for it to be a viable path.

Thanks a bunch in advance!
