2025 Sienna Platinum first impressions
Just wanted to give you guys my first impressions of purchasing and driving the MY25 Sienna Platinum.
Previous car. 2018 Tesla Model 3 / 2019 Mazda CX5 / 2019 Camry
Started my search early September for a minivan, debated between Honda, Kia, Toyota. Settled on the Toyota - reliability and resale won me over.
Dealership experience: Contacted different local dealership around the DFW area, and checked out No Markup Toyota FB page. Most local dealers were willing to sell at MSRP + dealer add-ons, or at MSRP. Found one dealership 4 hours away that was willing to order the vehicle with the specs I wanted + 2500 discount + free ceramic tint (dealership add on). Was given estimate delivery date of December.
Another was willing to price match after being shown the purchase order. Although they lost my business when I asked for their best price and they said no other dealership is offering discounts.
We settled on a price. $58.2k + TTL = $63.7k, I agreed and placed a $500 refundable deposit and they placed the order. It arrived 2 weeks earlier than I expected.
Financing: Pre- approved by Navy Fed at 5.79% which dealership couldn't beat. Was disappointed because I wanted to take advantage of military discount to save an extra $500. Oh well. Drove 4 hours there, talked with their finance dept (approx 20-30 mins), listened to the typical extended warranty stuff. Ended up buying the 6 year paint less dent removal and windshield replacement warranty. We've had bad luck with windshields, with 3 previous cars having broken windshields due to constant constructions on the freeway and dirt road.
Sienna Platinum impressions:
Coming from a Tesla owner, the software is woefully lacking and the app is basic. Took 30 mins to connect mine and my wife's phone to the app.
The infotainment is a big upgrade compared to my in-laws 2019 Highlander and Camry. The new screen has a faster response time and is bigger but I feel the big bezel around it makes it look slightly dated even for a 2025.
My opinion is biased coming from a Tesla, I feel the volume knob could have been moved down with the climate control buttons or just on the steering wheel is enough.
Easy-speak? I watched YT videos talking about it but don't see it in the options settings nor do I see a microphone anywhere. If someone knows, please let me know.
HUD is a big positive, during my long drive back, I didn't need to look at the digital gauge cluster at all. I've got it paired with Android Auto, and it doesn't seem to give me driving directions on the HUD. Maybe it will if I use the car's navigation?
Vacuum + fridge is awesome. We have 4 kids, 2 of which are babies and need milk to stay cool. Not having to worry about ice or milk going bad is worth it IMO.
TLDR: Dealerships will negotiate on higher trim Sienna, your mileage may vary on lower trims. If you're can and willing to wait, time is on your side with interest dropping and inventory building back up.
Toyota is a car company and not a tech company, their tech is meh but with only 4 minivan makers, they don't have a lot of reason to innovate.
