Help - husband is excruciating pain

Hi all - husband (41) had a total left hip replacement yesterday. At the VA hospital. They fought him for IV pain meds. Then 24 hrs later cut him completely off of IV pain meds. And only oxycodone. He cannot lift the left leg at all. Let alone bare weight on it. He cannot do PT as he shakes from the pain.

They keep telling him they’ll tell the surgeon but she’s not back until tomorrow. He was supposed to be able to walk hours after surgery. And he still can’t.

Is this normal? He’s suffering and all I can find online is for pain well after surgery. Not right after.
