What career paths in Sweden can help me avoid hostility at work?
I'm looking for advice on navigating a unique challenge. Here's a bit about me: I'm half Swedish and half Israeli. I spent a significant part of my life in Israel, and Hebrew is my native language. I'm also fluent in Swedish. My mother is an ethnic Swede who converted to Judaism, but l'm not religious. Since moving to Sweden, I've been working hard to build a stable and fulfilling life, but l've encountered an unexpected obstacle.
Without formal education or specific professional skills, l've been exploring working-class job opportunities. However, I've noticed that many of these roles in Sweden today are filled by refugees from the Middle East. I've noticed that some of them hold strong anti-Israeli and/or anti-Jewish sentiments. This is understandable, given that many refugees come from countries such as Syria, Iraq, or Palestine, but it has created a challenging work environment for me.
As a result, I don't feel comfortable being open about my background at work. I worry that revealing my identity at work could lead to daily hostility - or, in extreme cases, even put me at risk. This situation has made me rethink my career priorities, as I now value safety, respect, and a welcoming environment above all else.
I'm open to learning new skills, pursuing professional training, and getting a formal education if it will help me secure a stable and secure job.
Here are my questions: 1. Are there specific career paths or industries in Sweden where I might feel more secure and accepted? 2. Can you suggest jobs that offer more independence or remote work, where workplace politics and identity concerns might be less of an issue? 3. Do you have any outside-the-box ideas for job opportunities I could explore? I would greatly appreciate any advice, ideas, or insights you can share.
