Could this be a possibly decent way of implementing level 60?

Had a thought about level 60. I think we’re all know it will come eventually whether for genuine gameplay reasons or because Niantic want to, or need to, get more engagement somehow.

I didn’t enjoy the climb from 40 to 50; the XP requirements were annoying but less of a trial these days because XP is now more available than it was but it was the tasks that bugged me more than anything because some I found trivial at higher levels than those at lower levels, and some were a real pain for me being someone who generally plays solo, or engaged parts of the game which I don’t appreciate.

I realise that any system to get us to 60 will include both XP and task requirements because Niantic are somewhat unimaginative (see: paid community day research recycling, eggs-pedition access recycling etc), and I further realise that they will want these tasks to include all the aspects of the game including those I would rather they didn’t.

So, my proposal would be, were they listening:

To have a fixed “cost” in XP per level above 176 million (the total to get to 50). 25 million seems like a good round number but if their data shows lots of players sitting in excess of 400 million XP, I wouldn’t be outraged if they made it 50 million XP per level. Doing it this way rather than a new acquisition of XP rewards people who’ve kept playing long term, and won’t matter too much because…

There would also be just one goal per level, so 10 in total, and all 10 goals would be immediately available and you could work on whichever one (or ones simultaneously) you wanted to. They would of course be big stretch goals, perhaps based on the medals, perhaps set at something like double what platinum requires. Things like “walk 20,000 km”, “evolve 4,000 Pokémon”, “hatch 5,000 Pokémon”, “defeat 4,000 grunts”, “mega evolve Pokémon 2,000 times”, “collect 100,000 Pokémon”, “compete 8,000 raids” (ie combine the normal and legendary ones).

That way, you could easily (read: enjoyably) get to level 55 or 56 or whatever by doing things you actually like the game for (whatever that is) while slowly working on the things you don’t like “in the background” and climbing that hill last, or opting out of getting higher level if you really don’t want to do that task.

But crucially, no task you can’t do or don’t want to do will block you in the same way as someone who absolutely hates PvP being blocked at 43->44 tasks was, or someone who didn’t have enough XL candy to get from 46->47 was - those people couldn’t be “earning” towards the lucky trade requirements for 49 or the walking requirements for 48.

Over all it’s actually a pretty small change but I think it would make the progression much less annoying. What do people think?
