Amazon: “No upcoming changes” to The Expanse in the Prime Video catalogue.
Update: On-screen notices that The Expanse’s SyFy seasons are expiring on Amazon have also appeared in the US, this is now a fairly global situation. We don’t know at this point whether that means Seasons 1-3 are actually leaving, becoming paid content, or they’re just going to reappear under a new license agreement. Daniel Abraham is “having conversations” and will get back to us with anything he finds out.
15 January, AM: This is an update about concerns regarding The Expanse reportedly leaving Amazon Prime.
I’ve just had a fairly surreal and nice conversation with a customer service rep at Amazon Prime Video. The person I spoke to is apparently a fan of this community and had actually read my sticky comment in the other thread (hi Harsh! Hope the end of your shift was smooth).
They checked the Prime Video catalogue for upcoming changes, and said that there’s nothing indicating The Expanse is leaving, either in the US or elsewhere. They followed up by sending me an email (screenshot and transcription here) that they said we can treat as “official” restating that info, and said they’ll email again if they find out anything different.
From a different angle, Daniel Abraham is also currently checking in for us with people at Alcon to see if there’s any news there.
I don’t want to say definitively that nothing’s changing – I don’t know what checking each region actually involved, we didn’t get to talk about edge cases regarding dubbing, for example, and it’s also still possible there’s a change that’s made it into the code but isn’t in the customer service materials yet – but the clickbait version of the situation (“the Expanse won’t be available to stream after this month”) doesn’t seem to hold water.
Please visit the sticky thread (edit: added link) to send info/screenshots from where you are so we can keep compiling information, and to see other small updates. Since this was our first fairly big development, I figured making it its own post would be worth it.
