After a decade in Thailand, first time flying back to Europe. Is there something that I have to do in Thailand? I live in Thailand on a marriage extension and plan to come back after a few months.

Long time ago that I flew international, departing from Suvarnabhumi, and thinking what would have changed and what I have to do to have a good stay in Europe and an easy return to Thailand.

I'm living in Thailand, extensions based on married with a Thai partner, and an official address in Thailand.

I have made a little check list for myself:

  • Most important for me is the re-entry permit. I will do it here at the local immigration office. It's also possible at Suvarnabhumi, but I have no idea where it's located.

  • Going to Kasikorn Bank and check if I can use my Thai debit card in Europe. (I don't plan for using the card, because I also have a European bank account, but you never know)

  • I believe so long I have my Thai sim card, the bank app will work in Europe. I will use the app regular to make transactions and payments in Thailand.

  • Going to DTAC asking if my sim works in Europe. And maybe for the first months, ask for an international data roaming package. After some time, I can ask for a European sim card. (My phone supports dual sim)

  • My current extension is until end 2025, so it's best that I come back before the end of 2025. (On time to ask for a new extension.)

  • I believe that staying 3 - 6 or 9 months in Europe doesn't have an influence on my extension in Thailand. My Thai wife stays here, and the first year, it will have no influence on the marriage. (You still are seen as living together as a married couple)

Did I forget something?

Then practically, at Suvarnabhumi:

  • Is there still an immigration post with immigration officers?

I don't know if I need a stamp in my passport for the re-entry and I believe the automatic ports cannot do that.

If yes, where do I find them?

Is there something that I forgot, or you wish to add, please feel free to inform me.
