Can you kick out an abusive roommate? MN

My friend is currently trying to get out of an abusive roommate situation in a small town, the roommate is obsessed with him, extremely codependant, threatens to kill himself if my friend says he wants to leave or does anything to agitate him, screams and yells at him, isolates him, is just a gross dirty abusive person all around. However, he's on the lease. There was a huge fight and my friend checked into the ER because of a severe panic attack. Another friend went and gathered all of his stuff from their apartment and dropped it off at his sisters, and they told him to get out. He showed up while the other friend was there with a hospital band on his wrist (likely from urgent care) and said he tried to kill himself and had to go to the hospital (a lie, if he did they'd put him in a 72hr hold). My friend is waiting for him to get his shit and leave so he can go back to his apartment but so far people had to call a wellfare check on the roommate and he still hasn't left (it's been 4 days). If my friend is the head of household on the lease does that hold any water? I suggested he contact his landlord and claim DV to break the lease. Any other advice?
