How is the Brainrot at Your Schools?

Hey all! I am a first year teacher. I am a middle school social studies teacher at the 7th grade level. I wanted to ask and see how many of you deal with “brain rot” at the K-12 level.

If you don’t know what brain rot is, it is basically "low quality" online content (videos, memes, etc) that are prevalent on sites like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, etc. It’s a mix of weird internet videos kids are into these days as well as slang words, movements, etc. Some of the most famous slang and things kids watch/do that are considered to be “brain rot” are:

-Skibidi Toilet

-Gyatt

-Rizz

-Ohio

-Sigma

-Chad and Giga Chad

-Phanum Tax

-Mewing

-Fortnite (and Fortnite Dances)

-Roblox

-Baby Gronk

-Hawk Tuah

There’s more but these are some of the most popular. I have to deal with it on a daily basis, where I hear it everyday. Some periods are worse than others. That’s why I have a thing called “brain rot jail”, where if a kid says or does anything “brain rot” they have to sit in brain rot jail for 2 minutes. It’s not bad, just something I do that is GOOFY and SILLY to show that I know what they are into.

Do you guys deal with it?
