Starting TMS this week -- any advice?
I will be starting bilateral TMS this week for depression (lifelong dysthymia with bouts of major depression) and anxiety. I am planning to check in periodically to update how it's going, but as I look ahead to treatment, I was wondering if anyone has any advice on any of the topics below?
- Things you've done during or between treatments to make the experience more bearable? (I plan to bring earplugs and probably just ... read webcomics or something?)
- Things you've done during or between treatments to make the experience more effective or durable?
- I know a lot of that is speculative/untested but I'm still curious if there are theories on things that could help; for example I was thinking of trying to build an association with a scent or song during treatment to see if I could help jumpstart my brain back into what it was doing during TMS later if it's starting to wear off
- Things you did to cope with the suspense of enduring a lengthy/uncomfortable/inconvenient treatment while waiting to see if it would help you
- If you responded but had to come back for maintenance treatments afterward, what did that look like? Did you have to keep going back indefinitely or after a certain point did the results "stick?"
If anyone would like to share positive stories of their experiences that would be helpful as well! I would prefer not to hear the stories of it failing or going horribly awry; there's plenty of those on this forum and the positive stories are harder to find.
