Advice for a 42 year old woman

Guess I’ll just be brutally honest: I did a little standup, sketch and improv 13 years ago as a younger woman. Enjoyed as a hobby but wasn’t pursuing as a career.

Flash forward to now, I’m 42, own a business that gives me the free time to pursue comedy again.

Must admit I’m very challenged by the “scene” (95% young men), lots of drinking, smoking, you know. When I go to mics I feel SO out of place and awkward, but I know part of the work is meeting people and putting in time.

I’m not exactly sure what my direct question is, just wondering if the only way to start getting shows is to be at open mics every night of the week until late? Would love any advice from us OLDS out on the scene or other women.
