What Do Things in Spells Mean?

I’m very much a beginner and did a love spell a few weeks ago. It’s definitely not working and I think a big part of that may have been the fact that honestly I didn’t know what each piece in my spell even meant. I used cinnamon, rose, sugar, red candles, etc. Most of the reason I didn’t research this before was because I didn’t realize it was important to know. Even down to tea light candles being used to attract energy. Now that I know how important it is with your intention to know why you’re using each ingredient, I really wanna know why people use certain things in certain spells. Like why cinnamon is so prevelant in a love spell. I guess my main question here is, how did you guys learn. Are there any books anyone would recommend that really tell about specific ingredients? Sorry if this is a stupid question to even be asking here, but I’m very interested and would just love a little direction on where to start. Thanks everyone!
