Bullying in schools

Im really shocked and devastated by the recent bullying news from kochi.I teared up reading the mom’s post because even my nephew was bullied for his skin colour and my sister was also bullied because she has body hair and didn’t went to the school all dolled up.I cant understand why kids are so mean and rude to other people.Is this happening only in todays generation?because I don’t remember hearing about such incidents at my school time(Im 26 btw). Im really sorry for all the people who has went through such unfortunate events.lets all be kind to each other.

Edit-sorry everyone,what I meant by why is this happening in todays generation was directed to the physical violence like the boy has gone through.
