Surfacing Errors

I've recently been getting into surfacing, and have been trying to model some random objects.

However, I keep running into errors after creating surfaces - such as this one.

Solidworks does not allow me to thicken, nor fillet this surface. I'm not entirely sure why. If anyone has the expertise to explain what may be going wrong, I'd appreciate it immensely.
