The Glory of Innocence
TMBTE has some of the most prolific lyrics I have ever heard. More specifically, this:
“I guess it goes to show, does it not? That we've no idea what we've got until we lose it And no amount of love will keep it around If we don't choose it And I don't know what's got its teeth in me But I'm about to bite back in anger No amount of self-sought fury Will bring back the glory of innocence”
Listening to this song this morning, I thought long about the last line. My previous interpretation of innocence was something he lost as a victim, but given the back and forth nature of Sleep Token and some of the more sinister (and possibly condemning…) lyrics of other songs (ie Nazareth), I’m wondering if innocence could also mean that in a trial-jury sense like Vessel has been proven guilty as a perpetrator and he can’t take back what he’s done. Thoughts???
