40s and sunny in Helena MT AND MY SILVER (plus some yellow stuff)

So, all has been CHAOS here in the crackhead remodel department lol. But that is for later. I finally got to my LCS again and they were so happy to see me they sold me that little yelliw polar bear for 5.00 over what they paid for it-- equivalent to 50.00 over spot per ounce. So yeah one of the rare times my silver money went to gold lol.

But i did get the prospector for 5 over spot too. Generics are 4 over spot for what they had (almost nothing). Maples and other world sovereign coinage were 5 over spot except the few Libertads and ASEs.the Libertads were numismatic and priced accordingly. The ASEs were 6 over.

Lots of shoppers, they have been going nuts and full out for weeks now. The whole crew was in where normally only 1 may be 2 of the 3 are there. No 90 percent to speak of, and no decent Morgan or peace culls to speak of. Almost nobody selling, but while we were there both UPS and FedEx dropped off. Nice stuff too!!

I ran into several folks we know, so it devolved into a gossip fest that ended up with me getting a bunch of free storage containers! Yay! Those plastic drawer thingies. I needed those for my lab and my craft area.

ANYWHO, regular gas 2.68, diesel is currently 3.06. A case of eggs at walmart is 19.26. Costco had ZERO cases. Not even a sign up. In fact their "cheap" eggs were not in stock, all they had was almost 4 dollar a dozen vegetarian fed organic whatever eggs.

CHICKENS. ARE. NOT. VEGETARIANS. GRR.

Beef is on the rise fast, and expect that to get worse folks. And of course the growing bird flu thing is again gonna mess up eggs. Oh well. I finally got ham at 87 cents a pound bone in,math worked out to 1. 39 a pound for the meat plus the bone is making stock. Got another 88 cent a pound turkey.

And last night I went nuts and made a fantabulous ZUPPA TOSCANA! mmmm that wad a real treat :-). I am clearing up freezer space and had a pile of Italian sausage I wanted to use. I have chicken cacciatore on the menu too.

I have been piling up free stuff like crazy. Hubby is finally catching on that whenever anybody says they have free stuff, grab it with sincere thanks. Even trash gets reviewed on a case by case basis.

In addition to storage that would have easily cost me 20.00 and months of daily thrift shop visits or 60.00 new at walmart, I also have gotten: a pile of free firewood and pallets. A spring jacket that is only a little big, a puffy winter coat a little too big, a nice casserole dish, and a dust mop!

Oh, and we tracked down the cat shit issue in the master bathroom, with investigation on my part. Under the bathroom sink, between the flooring of the cabinet and the subflooring, was packed solid with cat turds. And a few dog turds. And even a handful of raccoon scat.

Why, you ask? Packrats. Yep, at some point packrats nested there. The former tenants dealt with that by plugging holes in the subflooring with expanding foam and steel wool.

And left the midden behind.

Go. Figure. Naturally when the plumbing started leaking and that mess started fermenting, bad things ensued.

So, we removed the mess, removed and replaced the subfloor and some studs, disinfected everything with 10 percent bleach, the works. Being the person in charge of remediation in our mining enterprises, I know how to deal with packrats.

For the curious, they pack the boundaries of their middens with things that serve as both food sources and defenses. So cactus pads are a common perimeter where there are cactus. And can be eaten. And turds, because it masks their smell from predators and these territory markers will keep away the subject animal too. And yes, packrats have been known to eat scat for nutrients as well.

Cute esthetic are, packrats cause staggering amounts of damage. Luckily they never found the wiring here.

I am hoping for 1 more LCS trip before the new year, who knows.
