How did Kimberly’s mail-in ballots example impress the professor?

I know I’m being too nitpicky about a sex comedy show but I find it unrealistic that an esteemed professor leading a symposium for the best and brightest would be impressed and even say she’s going to steal her idea when it’s a very surface-level take that anyone could have thought of. I mean, we’ve been learning about voter suppression since 8th grade civics. “Mail privilege” was cheeky and I understand it was supposed to point out how Kimberly approaches things differently because of her working class background but that’s just not how a college course would work. Did this annoy anyone else?
