Help on Guardian Ape on NG+

I’ve beaten every other boss first time , even genichiro, but the guardian ape is handing me a new one. In the normal game I could get the stage 2 every time but I can’t even get half his bar down. He seems to hit way harder and also not do some moves which used to leave him open?
