Homeowner - Earthquake Insurance In Seattle
I know this has been asked - but the threads I've seen are a couple years old or my situation is a bit different with a newer built home.
We bought our home (it is attached to one other house so maybe some would consider it a townhome) last year. It is a new construction, no basement, 3 stories with a rooftop, 2024 build, with no gas in the Central District area.
I fear I was in quite a daze when we originally had to pick the homeowners policy before closing on the property, so we ended up not getting the earthquake insurance because it was very expensive. I guess in our minds - we were already spending so much. But now that mentally has calmed down and I have a chance to rethink things.
I know many new builds aren't built as well as older homes, but I also know that they are up to the most recent building codes for the city.
I was wondering if anyone has gotten earthquake insurance recently (new policy) and with which company? Would you recommend it less or more to someone with a new build? I also wonder how it would work if our neighbor didn't have it and we had to rebuild - since we share a whole wall. Any tips or advice would be appreciated!
Thank you for taking the time to read this! And Happy New Year!
