Safest way to travel to SJ solo?

Hi sharks community! Just looking for a bit of advice.

I have been a huge Joe Thornton fan for the last almost 30 years so I thought it would be a really cool full circle moment to head down there for the Legends game and the Jersey retirement in November.

I just haven't been able to find anyone to go with me and I'm wondering what is the safest/most fiscally responsible way for a solo female traveler to experience this. I would like to stay close to the arena if it's safe and just walk everywhere from there. Just the hotels seem very expensive in the downtown core which is typical so is there a spot further away from the downtown where it would still be safe for me and I could easily get to the games via transit or Uber?
