dating within departments?

hi, i work at DUG at my safeway. i met my now boyfriend as this safeways, and he is a bakery clerk. my department has been particularly difficult for me (moved rooms, no ac in new room, drama between coworkers). apparently a position is opening up in the bakery and my boyfriend has alerted me of it, but we're worried about the dating within departments rule. is that actually a rule, or is it when a supervisor is dating a regular employee? trying to navigate this situation, as i'm very burnt out at my current position and enjoyed the bakery when i had the chance to help over there a while back.
