Anyone here have RBT experience? How similar are RBT positions at pediatric autism centers & being an SLPA?
Dilemma here.
I am working on getting my 100 hours for SLPA licensure, but of course that's unpaid except for the occasional hiring at a school prior to hours & licensure. Since it is currently summer break, my options are limited with completing these hours outside of a school. I am still reaching out to places with SLPs for potential supervision, so this is not completely ruled out yet.
However, a few of these places are currently hiring RBTs at an entry-level & will pay for the training. If I cannot find a place to complete my SLPA hours, would getting my foot in the water in a related field with the same pediatric population be worth it for the experience? Or would it be a waste of my time & their resources given that it would be temporary until I can complete my hours at a school when it starts back up later this summer?
I'm just experiencing some very inconvenient timing of everything & am trying to begin my career asap, but I just need these hours to do so. I'm trying to have a backup plan as I currently do not have a job & am trying to find one asap, but I also don't want to take an RBT job away from someone that truly wants it if I still have my heart & goals set on speech therapy. If needed, I can just get a job unrelated to kids at all. But I am trying so hard here to gain some sort of relevant experience while waiting on the hours I need to truly start this career.
Just feeling overwhelmed & trying not to feel defeated
