[o levels] participating in admission exercises for poly

hey ! no one asked me to type this but i thought it might help some of you o level students out there. im sure if you heard about eae and jae, but have you ever heard of dae? as an o level student, i have participated in all admission exercises and hopefully that you’ll learn something from the experience i’m going to share.

eae: early admission exercise

this is the first opportunity for you to enter poly. competition is quite fierce too, but i highly suggest you go for it. it could be your safety net if touchwood, you are not offered the course of your choice during jae.

eae portal opens in late june / early july. in this eae portal, you’re only allowed to choose 3 courses across all 5 polys. you also have to include a short write up, stating the reason why you chose that course. before submitting the application, you can also include a 200 word write up to highlight some achievements you think that is beneficial for you. you can edit your application details as many times as you want before the portal closes.

you may not get called for interview. some people only got called for one, while others got called for all 3 or not even a single one. engineering and design related courses might require you to sit for an aptitude test arrange by the poly before calling you for interview.

results are released through sms and in the eae portal about mid / late august, regardless whether you’re successful or not. once you have accepted your offer, you can withdraw if you have a sudden change in mind, just log into the portal and withdraw, BEFORE THE STATED WITHDRAWAL DATE

by accepting your eae offer, you will not be able to change course upon getting your results / participate in jae. do note only one poly will get back to you with the results if you’re accepted

i applied to these courses in eae (according to choices);

  • marine sci and aquaculture, rp
  • veterinary sci, tp
  • early childhood education, tp

i was called for interview for two of the courses. the interviewers asked questions like;

  • why did you choose this course?
  • what do you know about this course?
  • after graduating from this course, what will you do?

after looking at your portfolio they may ask you some questions regarding your results, achievements, and testimonials. your portfolio should include

  • certificates to highlight your achievements
  • cca records (beneficial especially you hold a leadership position in your cca)
  • testimonials (request for them from your teachers)
  • any evidence that you’ve done something related to the course.

as i was being offered my third choice in eae, i rejected the offer and decided to participate in jae instead.

jae: joint admission exercise

at this point, many of your friends would have already successfully gotten into the course they were offered during eae. however, some may lose their eae offer too as they did not meet the entry requirements.

after my results were released, i couldnt get into the course i wanted because my l1r4-c (raw) was 21, and i wanted to go into a 13 point course. i was only left with design courses as i have gotten a d7 in both math and science.

so i participated in jae, where i was being offered a place in media production and design, rp. i could not appeal because i did not meet the minimum entry requirements of the course i wanted.

jae portal opens either on results day or a day after, and closes in 5 days. during this time the dae portal will also be opened. best if you submit both applications at the same especially if you’re in a same situation as me.

in jae, you are allowed to have 12 choices, and it can be a mix of JC, poly, and ite. i’m not sure about MI, i’ll edit this once i find out. jae results will be released early february, and thats when you can make an appeal to switch courses / schools.

if you are being posted to jc, you need to report to your school the very next day.

if youre being posted to poly, you will receive an enrolment letter through email / mail a few weeks later, after the appeal results are out.

if youre being posted to ite, you will receive an enrolment package either through mail or email within the week.

appeal portal opens on the day of jae results, closes about 5 days later. appeal results will come out by end feb. you are allowed to choose up to 6 courses to appeal to, however you need to meet the minimum entry requirement. you may also refer to the poly’s website regarding the aggregate of the last person in that course. there is no second round of appeal, so choose your courses wisely.

direct admission exercise : dae

this is one way you can enter poly, and not many people know about this. you are allowed to choose 3 courses in each poly, which mean you can apply up to 15 courses in total.

tp, sp and np have only one phase of dae, portal opens the same time as jae, which is about mid january. rp and nyp have two phases, portal opens around mid january (phase 1) and late february (phase 2). dae is similar to eae, you get called for interview to answer similar questions.

the chances of you getting called for interview is quite high because every poly needs to fill up the empty places in then course after people withdraw / appeal out. however, not all successful applicants are required to attend an interview.

questions asked during the interview are similar to the ones asked during eae interview (you can check it out above).

you will receive an email regarding the status of your interview / dae result, be it successful or not.

i entered into marine sci and aquaculture, rp, during dae phase 1. at that time, my jae application would be overwritten, and the moment i accepted my dae course offer, i was automatically withdrawn from jae.
