Rogers SIM card

I got a laptop that’s wwan ready basically a sim tray to have mobile data on your laptop.

When I went to Fido (closest store to me) they said the SIM cards won’t work in the laptops he said they only work in phones. I said it would be the same as having a tablet with a sim card but he insisted it won’t work.

Was he right. I’m pretty sure he was wrong
