Is there Cross-play between ps4 and xbox?

Hello all, just as the title says: is there cross-play between the ps4 and xbox?

If there isn't any cross-play is there some roundabout way to be able to? My friend and I just really want to play together without having to buy a new console as both of ours don't have any issues.

I did try searching on this sub and Google, but the results on the sub were quite old and Google was giving me mixed answers.
