Technologists. Stop accepting Multi Modality work.

Over the 20 years I have been doing this I have seen the dangerous trend of technologists being asked to do multiple modalities at once, especially CT/Xray.

Where I currently work there is a tech who does Xray, CT, MRI and Ultrasound. This is ridiculous. It is almost impossible for a technologist to be a master of multiple modalities. This puts patients and risk, employees at risk, and it is insanely stressful for us to keep running back and forth between departments running multiple machines because we are being used and abused by these hospitals.

Start saying NO! They have the money. They have the ability to hire more techs for each modality they just don’t want to, but guess what, it’s an EMPLOYEES market and we MUST start saying no.

I was contacted to do a CT/Xray position. I said no, I only do CT. They still hired me

They know what they’re doing. Stop giving into this ridiculous practice. It is spreading and it needs to end

Can you imagine hiring a nurse to do ER, ICU and surgery all at one? No. So why do we?

Push back on this dangerous trend, it needs to stop.
