Rat traumatized???
TLDR: rat scared after seeing cat and won’t even react to treats, NO physical injury but very very concerned for her mental and emotional well-being. Looking for advice. Also she’s been alone for a bit which is making it harder to gain her trust, is this a point where I can introduce her to a pair of rats her age? I’m worried about introductions because she’s still afraid of me til now, and generally very skittish.
Please don’t hate, this is not something that ever happened before not even close to happening. This is the first and last time, and I understand this shouldn’t have even happened at all in the first place.
My cat was sleeping beside me and she got into the rats room, I didn’t notice. I left the door open for them and one of my rats was out of her cage sleeping in her Sputnik beside her cage.
My cat went to her and I noticed after a few seconds and NOTHING happened thankfully I instantly grabbed my cat and put her outside and closed the door, but she was sniffing at my rat and my rat now is very scared and won’t even react to her favorite treat.
She’s an approximately 6month old rescue (recently found) who survived a cat attack before and got surgery.
She’s completely fine and healthy nothing at all happened to her right now but I am worried for her emotionally and mentally. I feel awful and already and understand this shouldn’t have even happened at all in the first place, so please refrain from being mean. I am searching for advice and I want to do my best with her to make her feel safe and comfortable and socialize properly. I just need advice with my rat. She’s also still alone because she was a rescue found alone after the cat attack, and my rats are still too small to introduce to her.
I am thinking I’ll get her a pair her age for her to be able to socialize already because it’s unfair for her to remain alone for any longer. Please remember she was a rescue and I didn’t choose to get her alone.
