I'm worried about my homeless friend
So I (16 nb) have a friend (17 m) that I met at camp two years ago. We recently reconnected and started talking on Snapchat. it turns out he has been homeless for 6 months. he is in a town that is approximately 3 hours away from where I am.
last night (24 hours ago) he said on his Snapchat story that he was walking from Oxford Michigan to Flint Michigan that is an 18 hour walk. I was unable to give him a ride because it was midnight and it's too far. he has yet to respond to any text messages or calls on either his personal phone number or on Snapchat. I have been messaging him at various points through the day at 3:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. 6:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m..
I am really worried about him because if you know anything about Flint Michigan it is an incredibly dangerous area so I don't know what to do. I want to call somebody to check in on him but there's not really a way to check up on him. he doesn't have a residence so its not I can't just call up a welfare check.
I was looking for advice on what to do because I am incredibly worried and scared for my friend and his safety. I already called my areas non-emergency number just cuz I feel like this doesn't super constitute as an emergency. The other thing is that he could be anywhere anywhere between that that giant stretch of road it's not like he's just in a shelter that I can go check and check it on him.
His phone is dead it went straight to voicemail which is unlike him. he tends to respond to my text within 5 minutes or so. So him not responding to me in the slightest is an incredibly odd thing and he's really good about keeping his phone charged so. I just don't know what to do I'm scared.
Edit: thanks for all the advice he got in contact with me this morning! He's okay just a bit sick! In these situations I'd rather be safe than sorry.
