People who feel they need to announce “This is my first post ever on Reddit!” or “Throwaway account created for anonymity”

Like, why feel the need to announce these things? What purpose do they serve?

It’s along the same vein as announcing you are leaving a Reddit sub or other social media platform. (“This isn’t the airport, no need to announce your departure.”)

Similarly…. This ain’t the airport, no need to announce your arrival!

The “throwaway account” caveat in particular can be questionable. Reddit is already anonymous, so what’s the point of declaring something that makes people none the wiser?

I suspect it’s sometimes used as a cover excuse to explain an account’s low karma, when in fact the account was newly made by a troll, for the express purpose of being a troll.
