Looking to Ditch Edward Jones and Manage My Portfolio Myself
Hey All,
I'm new here. I've been with Edward Jones for most of my life. Just recently I've started earning enough to actively buy new stock a few times a year. I've enjoyed the peace of mind going through a brokerage has given me, and the occasional advice I've received. But now I'm at a point where I understand the basics, and I'm maxing my RRSP, TFSA and FHSA each year. And the transaction fees / commissions that EJ charges are bonkers. It's pointless to be paying them hundreds of dollars every time I buy shares of a stock that I myself picked out.
I've been assured that if I want to roll my accounts out of EJ and into a different place, I can do so free of charge. So I'm just wondering if anyone can advise me on where I should open a new account? Something like Quest Trade or Robin Hood?
I'm looking to pick something that charges low transaction fees for future purchases and sales. And that has a fairly simple UI so that I don't get overwhelmed trying to do things like transfer shares in kind into the TFSA in the future.
Thank you guys so much!
