Not sure what to call a certain symptom (Feeling like jello?)
Hey all!
So sometimes when my POTS is acting up, I get this symptom that I describe as "feeling soupy." However, I have no idea how to describe this to doctors since I don't know an accepted term for this feeling.
In short, it means my body/limbs feel "soupy" or floppy, loose, and hard to control. I'm lacking the solidness and stability that I would normally expect from my limbs.
Like, normally when you try to move an arm or a leg, you feel very solid and very in control of that movement. The muscle pulley & lever system is working properly and you can lift a weight or a cat with no problem. But when I feel "soupy," it's like my body has turned into a jello man. Sure, I resemble a man, I have arms and legs and a head, but those arms have no strength in them. If you try to make the jello man stand up, he'll flop over. It's sort of like that? If I try to stand, I feel so weak and wobbly. It takes ALL of my effort to stand for a few seconds and then I have to flop over, exhausted. When I feel like this, all I can do is lay on the couch/floor/bed. It's like I have no strength in my body and can't hold onto a shape, even though I can technically still move if I need to. At its worst (esp when it's hot}, I feel like my body is melting (anyone want some melted ice cream? lol).
So yeah, that's the feeling. I know that compression, electrolytes, and water help, so I'm not looking for advice on how to stop it. I just don't know what to call this "jello man mode" so I can describe it to doctors.
(Also, I call it "soup" instead of "jello" because soup is yummy and delicious, but I don't like jello. I like imagining a creamy potato soup running through my veins lol. It's my one pleasure/cope when dealing with the unpleasant feeling.)
