MQTT

Hello all,

I’m hoping some of you could help me out with deciding is this protocol is right for my application.

In my industry (BAS), we primarily use BACnet/IP or BACnet MSTP and at times modbus. My issue lies with the integrity of the BACnet/IP network. We do a lot of third party integrations where we are reading/writing to the third party I/O. The problem is that the exchange of data and the conversion of protocols is happening multiple times a min. I’ve slowly been able to optimize my network and its shown improvements but it’s still volatile and a lot of traffic.

I’m interested in opinions of others, good or bad on lightening the load of the customer server, and minimizing data requests to devices and objects by using MQTT.

I understand that this is a PLC sub not a Buikding Automation or networking sub, however I’m optomistic that someone in here has dealt with a similar issue. All I want to do is balance the network traffic using a subscription based protocol. I have no previous experience using MQTT so pardon my ignorance if I ask a stupid question.
