Walked 52,791 steps and 24 miles this weekend. Amazing time!
This was our first OSL. We did a lot of reading (big thanks to people on this sub who post advice) and these were the most useful pieces of advice:
Wear hiking boots: My feet were barely sore for the amount of walking I did. I wore regular socks the first day and then medium-light wool socks on Sat/Sun. My boots smell like hell but my feet are perfectly happy. Also made it easier for some of the more uneven/rocky trails.
Bring layers: I had a couple thicknesses of underlayers, which came in really handy when it got chillier in the evenings. Easy to stuff in a fanny pack or the locker.
Lockers: Super handy and completely worth it. We visited the locker a few times a day to swap stuff out.
VIP: Feels like it was worth every penny. We scored some great between-set lounging. Nothing like being able to actually rest your back on something soft when you've been standing/walking for hours. I never had to wait behind more than 1 person for a bathroom. The viewing area was really as accessible as people said it was. We got prime viewing for The Killers and the Postal Service, and still very good (not shoulder-to-shoulder) viewing for Chappell Roan.
Phone leash: I felt like a bit of a dork but I kept my phone on a phone leash the entire time. Either in my hand, or in my pocket on a lanyard-style leash. Only once or twice did we get into a situation crowded enough where I feel it would have saved my bacon, but I felt a lot better about being a "harder target" after reading stories about phone theft.
We spent a small fortune on food and imbibements but we budgeted in advance, so it wasn't really that much of a shocker.
The vibes were just so good. I hadn't been to a festival in well over a decade and this was the real deal. I can imagine coming back every year and doing it exactly how we did it this year. It was special.
