How Old Were Your Parents And Grandparents When You Were Born?
I (23M) was born in September of 2001 in Vietnam and this Tuesday, I will embark on a flight from the US to Thailand to travel and then stop by Vietnam to meet my parents and relatives.
I have two sisters (a sister who was also born in 2001 and another who was born in 1990) and both are in the Healthcare sector.
My father will turn 75 next month and my mother will turn 64 in March.
My paternal grandfather lived between 1911 and 1995 (he was rumoured to have been born as early as 1908 but we are not sure of the veracity of this)
My paternal grandmother lived between 1913 and 1998 (she was rumoured to have been born as early as 1909, but again, it is based on folklore and family tradition)
They had 10 children, with the oldest (male) living between 1934 and 2025 (died on 10 January due to a myocardial infarction) and the youngest (male) being born in 1955
My cousins' birth years range between 1965 (child of 1934) and 2000 (female child of 1955)
My maternal grandfather lived between 1922 and 2016 (he was the only one whose death succeeded my birth)
My maternal grandmother lived between 1923 and 1963 (apparently, she died because she resorted to alternative "Buddhist" healing instead of actual medication for what's supposedly a "cold")
They had 10 children, with the oldest (female) being born in 1942 (records state 1 January 1945) and the youngest (female) being born in 1963
My cousins' birth years range between 1969 (child of Di 4, 1946) and 1999
Fun fact: my oldest cousin (1969) has a child who was born in 1990 and a grandchild who was born in 2013
I am not sure who my great grandparents are or who the progenitor of the family was as they were all born before the 20th century
My Uncle (1934) was the oldest person in the family to have a university education. He was sent by the Vietnamese government to study in Moscow and he died in Berlin after living there for 56 years (all condolences to him).
My father was a coveted student throughout secondary school and his academic grades/entrance test scores were what got him from Hanoi all the way to Lomonosov Moscow State University for medicine back in 1968. He lived in Moscow for 6 years and was later was conferred a Public Health degree from Karlova Univerzita in Prague in 1976 after studying there for 2 years. He repatriated to Vietnam afterwards, and was sent to the South.
Much of my intelligence and intellectual mannerisms were inherited from him. I have studied in Russia between 2006 and 2012, and studied at a US private school between 2012 and 2018, taking a dozen AP + post AP courses during high school, and enroling in a lot of ECs and spearheading some (including the CS club that I envisioned). I was a USAMO qualifier (fun fact, I have a cousin who actually competed in the IMO representing Vietnam)
