Ky Bourbon Trail (not Ohio)

My wife and I are planning a long weekend and have never been to the bourbon trail. I know about BT and how their allocated bottle system works, but what other distilleries are absolute must visit (chance for rare/hard to get bottles, historical value/grounds, tours, tasting, etc). My wife isn't a huge bourbon drinker, so I need to balance drinking delicious bourbon with visiting places with beautiful grounds and/or historical significance.

Also if there are any suggestions on places to stay or stores to stop at on the way down or back I will jot those down also
