Alice the Conqueror

I want to make a daisy chain

Be like Alice and follow a rabbit.

I already have the tears to save me

But I don't want to use them.

I want to ignore the food and flip the table

Throw a vase out the window

Claw the wall down and dance out.

I refuse to let myself think in illusions.

I will find the Caterpillar and fashion him as a horse

Have the Cheshire Cat curl at my ankles

The Queen of Hearts will use her head as a croquet ball.

I'll become Queen of Diamonds

Icy and glittering, the soldiers will fold.

I'll have weekly tea with the Mad Hatter.

And talk about the what time it is for women on Mars,

If they prefer scones or crumpets,

And whether they dream of Earth or Venus.

Except I'm too sad.

And the tears I don't want to use will come.

They will wash away my kingdom and unravel my daisy chains

I'll lay on the grass and try to make another.
