What does the word "juice" mean to you?
Today a homeless man asked me for something to drink when I was going into the gas station and I asked what he wanted and he said "anything" so I said "water?" And he said "juice". I got him an orange juice and a mucho mango in a bottle and when I handed them to him he didn't say anything but looked upset and kinda like he couldn't believe that's what I got him. Does juice mean alcohol? Because if you are gonna ask for alcohol with a code name you might as well just say alcohol..like either way he would be asking me for alcohol. Or was there a specific type of juice I should have gotten..I thought orange was like the universe juice? Am I reading too much into it?
Edit: thanks for all the comments. To answer why I didn't have him come inside: it's been cold (in central fl) and he was sitting down with his blanket on and his stuff around him and i guess I figured if he wanted to be up and about he would be sitting closer to the door. Honestly it didn't occur to me to ask him to come inside. Hindsight is 20/20! And lastly, by the time I got the juice answer I was like 3 questions deep in the convo and didn't want to keep questioning him. I mean he did have multiple opportunities to be specific. I had to pry "juice" out of him.
