Why is drug abuse so rampant in the trades?

Is it because they think society looks down on them because they work with their hands? Some old tradition about how common people work manually while people who matter work with their minds? Just seems like guys in trades could have nice lives because they get paid pretty good but so many of them squander it away by getting drunk and high way too much
