My friend is having trouble downloading java edition

Hello Reddit! I got my friend one of the Minecraft redeem cards for her birthday so that she could finally get Java edition on her laptop. She followed the instructions for redeeming it, however it's only letting her play the demo version, and whenever she clicks the link to get the full version and goes through the process again, it still only let's her play the demo. Has anyone else had this problem before, and how did you solve it?
