Do you think nostalgia is cruel?
So I'm on YouTube listening to the hub world music from Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage. Now I love the Spyro games, especially the original trilogy.
While listening to the music, I see the comment sections of the videos and many comments talk about how much of a nostalgic shock the music is, and how it takes them back to the late 90's, early 2000's, the times that feel so much more simpler and better compared to the modern times we have now.
Back then, we didn't have social media to this level, we weren't as divided, there wasn't the feeling of doom and gloom in the air, the economy was doing good; it overall was an era that felt better and more stable compared to now.
Nostalgia does this to people (myself included). When playing a game that you grow up playing, you remember those days fondly, then you wake up and realize you live in the modern times.
Nostalgia can be cruel, because it is the cruel reminder that you will never have the simpler times ever again. From here on out, the gloves are off, the days of simplicity are dead. And nostalgia actively makes you yearn for the better days.
