13 yo Keeps coughing, like She’s struggling to breathe

As the title says, she’s had this like cough for two years now. At first we thought it was a heart thing bc we only noticed it when she’d get excited. But today she woke us up with her hacking, it’s been the worst today than ever before. The vet says it’s a laryngeal issue with her age, like she’s outliving her own body and it’s starting to turn on her. Today she’s doing to cough thing, but it seems like she’s having labored breathing. The vet said there’s not really anything we can do about it. She’s already had a few surgeries from removing a cancerous tumor in her throat that thankfully didn’t attach to anything and was easily removed.

I guess what i’m asking is has anyone else dealt with this issue? She’s practically a puppy with her playfulness and energy. If it weren’t for the occasional joint issues, she’d be like a brand new dog. We want to give her the best golden years and try to make her as happy and comfy as possible. But this cough thing is hindering that :/
