Massive Attack's art direction

Everyone praises their music but something I never see discussed Is how fantastic their visual art direction is. Sometimes I will just sit there and flip through the CD booklets in my car, admiring the art.

Mezzanine uses a monochrome palette almost entirely, but then.. You open the Jewel case and you're met with a neon orange CD. It's like the hints of color are meant to juxtapose, and to really drive in the starkness and abrasiveness of the album. The stag beetle on the cover is grotesque, and yet you can't look away. It is almost beautiful in it's ugliness. it perfectly compliments the album thematically.

Blue Lines and Protection have that DIY cut-and-paste art style that compliments the earthy and down to nature feeling of both albums perfectly. This style might be my favorite, I love the cardboard drawing for Karmacoma's single.

And then 100th window, with it's use of shattered glass and fluorescent lighting to visualize how cold and isolating the album is, complimented by the digital texts that are superimposed. It feels like it is demanding your attention, similar as to Mezzanine.
