The Contentment and Satisfaction Experiment- an alternative to low/no buys
Taking a page out of Shawna Ripari's handbook and wanted to discuss an alternative way to look at no/low buys.
Low and no buys have different meanings for each person, but can sometimes be intimidating since it can seem stifling in its name. I'm someone who likes to test the rules so even if I make a list of rules and guidelines for my low buy, it often goes out the door a few months (weeks) in.
I feel like the underlying vibe I get from low/no buys is a determination to use things up, not spend more than necessary, and to fight the consumeristic mindset. Sometimes I think we use pretty aggressive language - and we have to as a part of makeup rehab, but maybe there are also some positive word choices we can use so the experience feels less intervention-like and more a lifestyle that we look forward to stepping into.
So this year I really want to change the mindset for myself to enjoy my collection rather than see it as lacking. I've spent a lot of time choosing products and trying things and I really should enjoy the fruit of my labor rather than looking for new options. No more comparing, no more "holes to fill", nothing to "correct" but to take a deep breath and smile at my collection and really enjoy my time with it.
"Year of contentment" is what Shawna uses, but I might pivot to "the satisfaction experience" to invoke the reminder that I can choose to let my makeup bring joy and satisfaction, not just contentment. And on top of that, choosing words like "experiment" or "experience" allows it to be something that you can try and then make it integral part of your experience with makeup and beauty.
There's a lot of other word options out there, so please comment with other "no/low buy" alternative names you can think of!
So whatever challenge you find yourself looking forward to in the new year, I hope that you will enjoy your collection no matter what!
