Proud of myself.
I’ve been a makeup lover since I was a child, I didn’t buy makeup or wear much until I was in high school. I always have had a big collection because I love trying new products and shades of things. I’ve realized this year, how unattainable it was for my mental health and financial wellbeing.
I also work in a Sephora, so it’s hard to ignore new items dropping or I would justify using my discount to get the things I want.
The last few months, I’ve sparingly bought new products, but mainly only replacements. I also get gratis (not much) but enough to where I don’t need to buy certain categories anymore because I have back ups.
This month, I used up a primer, a cleansing balm, almost done with my moisturizer, I used up a hairspray, I’ve consistently been reevaluating my collection and just consuming those products instead of searching for more.
I’m proud of myself for sticking to my guns and just withholding myself from buying new things just because they swatch really nicely or because I felt like I needed it. I check myself when looking at new makeup by remembering if I have a similar shade at home, even if it’s a different formula. I gravitate towards similar colored lip products for example, so I know I don’t need it if I can remember I have it at home.
I’m hoping to pan most of my collection over the course of this next year. I’m not officially on a no-buy ban for myself, but I only buy something if I need to replace a category and only limit myself to something new if I don’t have that color or product already.
For me, this is the number of items I have per category right now:
Foundations: 2 liquids and 1 powder
Primers: 2
Loose Powder: 2
Eyeshadows (palettes and singles: palettes counted as 1): 28
Eyeshadow Sticks/Cremes: 5

Blush: 10
Bronzer: 2
Highlighters: 6

What is your collection count? :) thanks for reading
