Conflicted about a girl I met in Thailand
I’m a 30M from the US currently in Bangkok for the month to explore what it might be like to live in Thailand. After spending a few weeks here, I’m sold. In my first week, I DJed at a club in Thong Lor, and after one of my sets, I met this girl (31F). It was funny because, at first, I thought she was an American who grew up in Bangkok since her English was excellent, and her accent was so fluent. But as we talked more, her Thai accent came through occasionally, and she admitted she tends to mimic the accents of people she meets.
After that night, I ended up spending the night at her place, and that turned into several nights at her apartment in Thong Lor. She has a beautiful place and a cute dachshund. Naturally, I was curious about what she does for work, and it turns out she works in casting for commercials in Thailand, which makes sense based on the stories she posts on Instagram.
The more time I spend with her, the more I enjoy her company. She’s a big music fan like I am, and she used to do Muay Thai but recently switched to weightlifting—which I do both of. We’ve been spending a lot of time together, and honestly, I haven’t felt this kind of connection with anyone in a long time.
I had already planned to move to Thailand in mid-2025 on a Thai Education/Muay Thai visa. The DJ scene here is incredible, I love the gyms, I have a few friends who live here, and now this girl feels like an added bonus.
I’m thinking about discussing with her how she feels about a potential relationship. However, I’m conflicted because I’ve seen stories of foreigners getting played in similar situations.
Do you have any advice on how to handle this? I’ve never had a long-distance relationship as an adult, let alone with someone in another country.
