[Paul Joyce] - Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton wanted permanently by RB Leipzig.

Think it would be a massive mistake to let him go when he plays a position/role we haven't tied down long-term, and still need bodies in. Although, the move makes sense if Edwards puts in a clause that gives the club an opportunity to get him back.

RB Leipzig are one of a number of teams interested in signing Liverpool and England Under-21 midfielder Tyler Morton.

Morton has been steadily building experience on loan at Blackburn Rovers, where he played alongside Adam Wharton, and Hull City in the Sky Bet Championship after making nine appearances in 2021-22 at boyhood club Liverpool.

The 21-year-old has now amassed almost 100 senior appearances in his club career and that body of work has commanded attention from Leipzig as well as clubs of the calibre of Sevilla, Feyenoord, Eintracht Frankfurt and some in the Premier League.

Virtually every club in the Championship would also like to sign Morton on loan, although having just completed two seasons at that level he is keen to keep progressing. Ideally, that would be at Liverpool and he is due to report for the start of pre-season training under new manager Arne Slot at the beginning of July.

Much will depend on Liverpool’s plans for Morton, and also their valuation of him, although Leipzig are keen to do a permanent deal.

The German club finished fourth in the Bundesliga last season to qualify for the Champions League and view Morton as someone who could flourish in an environment that is renowned for polishing talent. A study by the CIES Observatory earlier this year revealed Morton ranked higher than any Liverpool player in terms of press resistance. His ball retention under high pressure stood at 86.9 per cent and only two players younger in the world’s top 28 leagues boasted better figures than him. They were Barcelona’s Gavi and Paris Saint-Germain’s Warren Zaire-Emery, who both had 87.1 per cent.

Morton signed a new-long term contract with Liverpool 18-months ago and Slot’s assessment of him in pre-season will come against a stampede of interest in the background.
