Should I get my grandparents land?
So recently me, my fiance and kid had to move an hour back towards our home town. I was fixing up an old mobile home at my grandparents land. They had 10 acres in the middle of nowhere with a 2000 sqft home they built(it's in disrepair buty uncle lives in it). There is also a shop, probably about 1200 sqft. They have a creek but it dries up pretty often, and a lot of dense forest. Plenty of room for a large garden and orchards.
We missed our deadline on getting the mobile home move in ready and had to rent a place in the city.
My grandpa passed away leaving it all to my uncle who is in poor health.
The public school near their home isn't ideal but it's where I went.
My uncle can't afford to keep paying the mortgage, it's like $600 a month and they owe about 40k still I think.
I'm trying to decide if it's worth continuing to fix the mobile home to live in and helping with the mortgage orher wise it goes back to the bank. I feel an obligation to keep it in the family for all my grandparents did for me growing up but it would be difficult. The money I would save on rent by moving there would be going to fixing it up and starlink. Good internet is a must and the only other option is dsl.
My concerns are potentially being stuck in a place I might now want to be forever, but it would give us the opportunity to go on more vacations. It's 30 minutes from any town so travel for work would also increase, but I hope to get a work from home job soon.
In an ideal world, I'd move to northern Sweden and live off the land but that's just not practical. We currently live paycheck to paycheck, barely getting by.
I really just don't know what to do any more. I do. T want the land to go to waste. I know that for sure, but I'm not sure if it's in mine and more importantly my kids best interest to move there. Living conditions would be much worse probably but we would have a lot more freedoms.
