Common Assault Case, is he likely to be found guilty? (England)

Not sure if I’m allowed to share too much of the details because it’s still an ongoing case but I’ll try keep this as broad as possible whilst still getting my point across.

A few months me and my mate were walking through a car park when a man got out of his car, claiming that my tote bag had hit his car and that I needed to apologise to him, all very irate about the matter. I was confused at first, seeing as my tote bag is really light and I didn’t even notice whether or not it had even hit his car, but nonetheless apologised. He continued to get angry, and began shouting, and at this point he spat on me, and punched me round the face.

He walked to the other side of the car park and I followed, where he hit me again in the face. I was in tears at this point and got my phone out, taking pictures of his face and his license plate. I shouted something at him, can’t remember what it was exactly but it was something like “Bet you feel like a real hard man punching a girl!” (I’m 20 and the man was easily in his mid-30’s and reasonably large lol.)

Well, he’s been charged with common assault and has plead not guilty, trial is due to to take place some time in 2026. There was no CCTV of the incident, but to my knowledge the evidence is:

1.) Statement from me and my friend who were there.

2.) The pictures I took of the man & his car (including his license plate.)

3.) Pictures of the bruises on my face, as well as reports from A&E, where I had to get my skull xrayed after the attack.

4.) CCTV of him leaving the car park in his car.

To my knowledge, he’s gone ‘no comment’ through all his interviews with the police, as told to me by the PC working on my case.

I only found out earlier this month that he’d plead not guilty, and was told that since I’m the victim I’d need to appear in court to give evidence.

I’m really anxious about all of this, especially since I wasn’t really expecting him to plead not guilty (it seemed pretty cut and dry- I mean the man punched me!) and I’m really not sure what to expect out of this whole thing. With all of the evidence I have, would anybody be able to weigh in what the likely outcome of this case is going to be? I’m literally losing sleep over it, both because of the fear of having to appear in court, and also because of the prospect that there’s a chance that after all of this he might just be found innocent. Really just interested in hearing other people’s thoughts!
