Why a megathread?

A megathread was considered and lightly attempted on the first day, but was dropped by the next day due to not seeming to be necessary. During that second day posts became entirely un-manageable for our small team of two mods. The sub was set to private for a few hours so that new mods could be deputized and get caught up on the many, many, many reports (which is what we meant when we said we were cleaning up the sub). To keep things manageable it was decided to enforce a megathread on the subject. There is criticism of the concept of a megathread making it difficult to find information about the situation, we had considered that, but it was decided a megathread would be less difficult than otherwise due to the volume of posts that are coming in.

Why the bans?

Perma-bans are being handed out by the same criteria as always, if it's clear a user has no intention of ever complying with the rules then they get a perma-ban.

Most people who are getting banned are getting limited-time bans, and still because of violating the rules. Bans have not been used much here in the past, but right now they are being handed out more generously in order to help reduce the amount of content that ends up getting reported.

To be clear: Whether we agree or disagree with the content is not part of the criteria. If you state something that is 100% true, but you do it in a way that violates the rules, it will be removed and depending on how badly it violated the rules a ban may accompany it. We're trying to stay neutral on this, and the amount of seething messages we've received calling us every political group, or lovers of every racial group, seems to indicate that we're doing okay at that.

That said, if you feel a ban was unfair, appeal it. We've already reversed or reduced several of them.

What kind of names are the mods being called?

Nobody really asked this, but the creativity of some of these has to be shared.

  • Obvious stuff, like fascists, bootlickers, commies
  • self-hating cucks
  • cock gargling assclowns

Why all the content removal?

Because it violated the rules. Read the rules.

Just like bans, this is subject to appeal. Mods can over-apply rules, especially when the volume of content to moderate is so high. Ask why and we'll take a second look.

Why are you suppressing information about X?

We're probably not, at least not on purpose. If information is presented in a way that violates the rules, we're going to remove it. Try stating it again in compliance with the rules. A side effect of this is some good information gets removed. Fortunately this is almost always countered with the fact that someone else has or will state the same idea and do it in a way that doesn't violate the rules. If it hasn't, then step up and state it.

To help fight the idea that we're intentionally suppressing the truth about things, here's some things that are true that we're being accused of suppressing:

  • There have been riots that last two nights.
  • Rioters and/or looters have caused a lot of damage, destroying a number of businesses. Many people are afraid for their lives.
  • Two people died from gunshots during riots the night of 8/25/2020, one more is wounded.

This list is not comprehensive, if I didn't list something that you think is being suppressed, send a message at this link:

I don't like these rules.

That's fair, but they're the rules the mods have decided on. r/KenoshaNews was just started up for people who want to be able to post any information they want, feel free to check it out.
