Hello, important safety and policy update in regard to images on the website

We here at janitor have heard your voices, and we agree that need to make some changes to keep our community safe and accessible. This is about protecting our users and making sure janitor stays available to everyone.

We've been seeing some concerning stuff with public bot images. We can not stress enough that we have zero tolerance for CSAM (Child Sexual Abuse Material) or harmful content on our website. This change will help us ensure that going forward we can eliminate as much gross content abuse as possible.

What we are changing?

Instilling guidelines and setting up new rules on public bot images to keep things safe and accessible.

The changes are ONLY in regard to public images within Character cards and Bio’s. This does not affect chats or text within characters.

Basic rules and guidelines:

  • no nudity;
  • no explicit sexual content;
  • no visible genitals;
  • suggestive content is fine within reason.

Note: We will be releasing a more in depth guideline on what types of images are allowed to best resolve any miscommunication or confusion.

How we are checking images?

We have an automated moderation system for images and their contained content. This system will flag anything over 80% confidence for:

  • explicit nudity;
  • anything involving minors (zero tolerance here);
  • explicit animal content;
  • hate symbols/extremist symbols;
  • detailed anatomical content.

These values will get tweaked as we test. Our goal is to eliminate depictions that are inherently harmful or fall within extreme explicit material while allowing our users to otherwise create freely within our existing Terms of Service and guidelines.

When is this happening?

Text that appears at the top of your screen when you upload a bot.

This change starts at the exact moment of the announcement, placing a small warning on the top screen that appears at the beginning of each new bot posted. Soon, this change will automatically place NSFW images that were noticed by our automod into a temporary 'place-holder'.

What it means for your bots?

Chats remain the same as before, we do not have any type of text filter, only in public bots.

Private bots remain without any type of change.

Note: Your content will not be removed if you have images that violate our new guidelines. As stated, a replacement image will be placed, and you can then update the image with something that falls within what is allowed.

Why this matters?

  • Keeping harmful content off the platform;
  • Making JanitorAI safe to use anywhere;
  • Protecting our community of sensitive content for users;
  • Focusing on what matters - good bot interactions and storytelling.

This is not about resources. It's about ensuring we are taking the steps to protect vulnerable individuals and others by eliminating CSAM and extreme material.

What stays the same?

  • All NSFW text allowed;
  • Bot personalities unchanged;
  • Private characters = no restrictions;
  • Score features will continue working normally.

Can you appeal your image?

No. If your image has been flagged, then it means it has been deemed to be in violation of our new guidelines. You will be able to update the image with one that is not in violation.

We thank you all for being here on this journey with us. Nothing is more important to us than our users and the creativity you all express. We hope this change allows Janitor to continue to grow in the best ways.
